They share their work in public and often challenge conventional wisdom. The Award is given to professionals who continuously welcome challenges at the cutting edge of their expertise and are convincing and effective advocates of a humanistic approach to workplace learning and performance.<\/p>\n<p>We announce the award on 5 July, Jay\u2019s birthday.<\/p>\n<p>Following his death in November 2015, the partners of the Internet Time Alliance (Jane Hart, Harold Jarche, Charles Jennings, and Clark Quinn) resolved to continue Jay\u2019s work. Jay Cross was a deep thinker and a man of many talents, never resting on his past accomplishments, and this award is one way to keep pushing our professional fields and industries to find new and better ways to learn and work.<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_2307\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2307\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2307 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/201609_andrew-300x288.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/201609_andrew-300x288.jpg 300w, https:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/201609_andrew.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2307\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Andrew Jacobs<\/p><\/div>The Internet Time Alliance Jay Cross Memorial Award for 2020 is presented to Andrew Jacobs.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew is determined that learning and development should be an integral part of business activity. He is currently employed in a challenging position inside the UK government, but Andrew continues to blog at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lostanddesperate.com\/\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lost &amp; Desperate<\/a>. In 2013 his blog was one of the 50 most socially-shared learning and development blogs. In spite of his work demands, Andrew continues to share through his blog and on Twitter (as <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AndrewJacobsLnD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@AndrewJacobssLnD<\/a>). He also speaks at industry events;\u00a0in 2019 and 2020 he\u00a0was a valued contributor to my Modern Workplace Learning track at the LearnTec Conference in Karlsruhe, Germany offering his experience and supporting others. In his previous work, Andrew became an expert at improving workplace learning with almost no budget.<\/p>\n<p>Much in the spirit of Jay Cross, Andrew is constantly questioning the status quo. In his own words \u2014<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;If LnD help them learn, they won\u2019t need learning.<br \/>\n<\/em><em>If they don\u2019t need learning, LnD aren\u2019t required.<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Therefore, to be required, LnD shouldn\u2019t help them learn<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Why do LnD still market a once and done approach to learning?<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Can\u2019t sell? Learn this.<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Can\u2019t comply? Learn this.<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Can\u2019t coach? Learn this.<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Can\u2019t manage? Learn this.<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Can\u2019t lead? Learn this.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It is with great pleasure that we present the fifth annual Internet Time Alliance Jay Cross Memorial Award to Andrew Jacobs.
