people learn (at work) from each of the 4 D&#8217;s of Learning: <strong>DISCOVERY<\/strong>, <strong>DOING<\/strong> <strong>(the day job), DISCOURSE <\/strong>and<strong> DIDACTICS. few points to be made here:<\/p>\n<p><strong>ONE<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Clearly, everyone learns in different ways at different times, but overall there does seem to be a pattern emerging that shows that\u00a0learning at work\u00a0<strong><i>mostly<\/i><\/strong> takes place through\u00a0<strong>DISCOVERY<\/strong> and <strong>DOING (the day job). \u00a0<\/strong>However, we can see a few interesting differences<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>youngest<\/strong><\/span> employees consider they learn slightly more (than the average) from \u00a0<strong>DOING the day job<\/strong> than <strong>DISCOVERY<\/strong> whilst this pattern gradually reverses as\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">employees<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>get older<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>the <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>youngest<\/strong><\/span> and the <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>oldest<\/strong><\/span> employees consider they learn slightly more than the average from <strong>DIDACTICS<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In terms of nationalities (see table below)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">those in the\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>USA<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0consider they learn more from\u00a0<strong>DIDACTICS<\/strong> than the average<\/li>\n<li>those in <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Australia and New Zealand<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>and <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Brazil<\/strong><\/span> believe they learn ,more from <strong>DISCOVERY<\/strong> than the <\/strong>Essentially<strong>\u00a086% <\/strong>of what people learn comes from non-training activities &#8211; and yet it is the <strong>14%<\/strong>\u00a0where L&amp;D&#8217;s focus lies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THREE<\/strong> &#8211; Workplace Learning is no longer about learning solely from internal courses, resources and activities, people learn both from <strong>inside<\/strong> the the organisation and <strong>outside<\/strong> the organisation.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s dig down into this a bit deeper, and consider how frequently we learn from each of the 4 D&#8217;s of
