{"id":6480,"date":"2019-05-13T10:13:30","date_gmt":"2019-05-13T10:13:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/?page_id=6480"},"modified":"2020-04-27T09:08:50","modified_gmt":"2020-04-27T09:08:50","slug":"current-workplace-learning","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/mwl\/current-workplace-learning\/","title":{"rendered":"What workplace learning currently looks like"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If we apply the 4 D&#8217;s model of learning to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toptools4learning.com\/wpl100\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" class=\"external external_icon\">Top 100 Tools for Workplace Learning 2019<\/a>\u00a0(WPL100) list we can see which tools are being used to support modern learning in the workplace.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7418 size-large\" style=\"border: 1px solid #000000;\" src=\"http:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/WPL100-600x450.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/WPL100-600x450.png 600w, https:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/WPL100-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/WPL100-624x468.png 624w, https:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/WPL100.png 720w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>DIDACTICS<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The vast majority of tools on the list are still focused around <strong>directed (or formal) learning\u00a0<\/strong>in its broadest sense, ie designing delivering and managing things for people to learn.\u00a0Whilst course authoring tools still dominate, there is now a wide range of other asset development tools in use, from the sophisticated Adobe stable\u00a0to basic documentation and presentation tools\u00a0\u00a0to create simpler types of resources. Some organisations are also now providing libraries of external online courses for their people.\u00a0A number of learning platforms appear on this year\u2019s WPL100 list too, but these vary from the traditional LMS to learning experience platforms (LXPs) that offer a personalised learning experience. \u00a0But significantly, there is also evidence that hosting of content is now taking place outside of the LMS where it is more easily accessible, e.g. on the intranet.<\/li>\n<li><strong>DISCOVERY<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2013 When it comes to <strong>informal learning<\/strong>, only a few web specific resources appear on the list, rather there seems to be more interest in implementing curation platforms to automate this process for employees (rather than encouraging their own self-discovery to solve problems and themselves keep up to date).<\/li>\n<li><strong>DISCOURSE<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 <strong>Social learning and collaboration<\/strong>\u00a0has become much more valued in recent years as a way of learning, and this year a large number of team collaboration platforms appear on the list.<\/li>\n<li><strong>DOING (THE DAY JOB) \u2013 <\/strong>In the workplace,\u00a0the Microsoft ecosystem\u00a0\u00a0has now taken a firm hold and offers a complete platform to support <strong>daily work<\/strong> <strong>and learning<\/strong>.
