You can purchase access to the full resource <a href=\"http:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/sign-up\/\">HERE<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2190 <a href=\"http:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/\">Full Contents<\/a> | <a href=\"http:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/mwl\/about\/\">Section 1 Contents<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5109 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/people-3295555_640-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/people-3295555_640-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/people-3295555_640-600x401.jpg 600w, https:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/people-3295555_640-624x417.jpg 624w, https:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/people-3295555_640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The work of a modern L&amp;D department is is no longer just about designing, delivering and managing training experiences, but about enabling and supporting continuous improvement, learning and development..<\/p>\n<p>The work of the Modern Workplace Learning Practitioner falls into 3 stages:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Prepare and Promote<\/li>\n<li>Enable<\/li>\n<li>Support<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Stage 1: Prepare and Promote<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Preparing the organisation for a modern, continuous approach to workplace learning involves helping managers and employees acquire a new organisational learning mindset, i.e. one that recognises that<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>learning takes place in many different ways for, at and through work, and that<\/li>\n<li>the role of the L&amp;D function is not just about designing and delivering learning experiences for people to take &#8211; but helping individuals to organise and manage their own self-improvement and self-development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This stage involves explaining the rationale for this approach (for both the organisation and employees), as well as the principles of modern learning, and the new practices involved (for both individuals, their managers and L&amp;D).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stage 2: Enable<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This stage involves two aspects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>helping managers<\/strong> to understand how they can operationalise this new approach to workplace learning in their teams, what it means to them, and how the Modern Learning Practitioner can help and support them.<\/li>\n<li><strong>helping individuals<\/strong>\u00a0to acquire or hone their modern learning skills so that they can get the most out of (and learn from) their daily job as well as from the Web, as well as organise and manage their own self-development in a more structured way (particularly if their manager is supporting them). It means helping them understand how to learn in new ways, develop new learning skills, as well as select the tools and services that will bring them value.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This stage will involve working with managers and individuals in very different ways, offering a personal and bespoke service that fits the needs and preferences of the manager and his\/her team &#8211; rather than adopting the traditional, one-size-fits-all top-down approach.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stage 3: Support<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some people in the organisation may well already be effective independent modern learners, whilst others will need continued help to become so.\u00a0 In this stage, the Modern Learning Practitioner takes on an advisorial and consultancy role:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>promoting sharing <\/strong>of learning, new knowledge and skills in work teams, as well as coordinating events to showcase new talent across the organisation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>providing bespoke advice and support<\/strong> to managers or employees, as and when required \u2013<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>The role of the Modern Learning\u00a0<\/strong><b>Practitioner<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The Modern Learning Practitioner will therefore need to be someone who can \u201cwalk the talk\u201d and demonstrate what it means to be a modern learner.\u00a0 He\/she<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>will have established a habit of continuous learning, and makes a point of learning something new every day<\/li>\n<li>makes the most of (and learns from) everyday work experiences \u2013 through problem-solving, interactions with their own manager, and their own team<\/li>\n<li>manages their own self-improvement and self-development<\/li>\n<li>has grown their own professional network<\/li>\n<li>continuously keeps up to date with their industry or profession<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The attributes of a Modern Learning Practitioner<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Modern Learning Practitioner will therefore be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a <strong>Specialist, Expert <\/strong>and<strong> Master <\/strong>of modern learning \u2013 demonstrating modern learning attitudes and practices.<\/li>\n<li>a <strong>Guide<\/strong> and <strong>Helper<\/strong> to individuals \u2013 empowering and supporting them to self-improve and self-development in many different ways.<\/li>\n<li>a <strong>Partner<\/strong> and <strong>Consultant<\/strong> to managers \u2013 helping them to understand and how to adopt a continuous learning mindset, as well as how to build an effective social team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Whilst some L&amp;D professionals\u00a0are already taking on the work of a Modern Learning Practitioners \u00a0&#8211; especially in smaller organisations \u2013 for other (larger) organisations this will require a big change in terms of their work, but the following sections of this resource will provide guidance on how you can take on this new work.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">\u21d2 <a href=\"http:\/\/modernworkplacelearning.com\/cild\/mwl\/modern-workplace-learning-technology\/\">Modern Workplace Learning Technology<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Last updated: September 9, 2020 at 13:53 pm<\/em><\/p>\n ","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a page of the first FREE section of the MWL 2020 resource; there are 25 sections in all.
